Thailand Warns Eight Provinces of Possible Flooding as High Tides Threaten Bangkok and Coastal Communities

ORBIS WEATHER | November 1, 2026 | By Paul Harrison

Flood Watch: October 31 – November 4

BANGKOK, THAILAND — Thai authorities have issued a flood warning for Bangkok and seven surrounding provinces as unusually high tides, strong easterly winds and rising river levels threaten low-lying communities across central Thailand.

The Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) warned on Sunday, November 1, that elevated sea levels could cause water to overflow riverbanks, flood residential neighborhoods and disrupt major roads through November 4.

🌊 Eight Provinces Under Flood Warning

The areas under close monitoring are:

  1. Bangkok

  2. Chachoengsao

  3. Samut Prakan

  4. Nonthaburi

  5. Pathum Thani

  6. Samut Sakhon

  7. Nakhon Pathom

  8. Samut Songkhram

Communities outside permanent flood defenses are particularly vulnerable, especially near the Chao Phraya, Bang Pakong, Tha Chin and Mae Klong rivers.

Authorities have also identified Sukhumvit Road, Suksawat Road and Rama II Road as potential flooding locations.

🌬️ Why Are Water Levels Rising?

A high-pressure system extending southward from China has strengthened easterly winds across Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.

These winds are pushing seawater toward the coast and into river mouths, making it harder for rivers to discharge water into the sea.

According to Thai reporting, water levels in affected waterways could rise approximately 30–50 centimeters above critical thresholds.

⛈️ More Heavy Rain Expected November 2–6

The flooding threat comes as Thailand prepares for another period of unsettled weather.

The Thai Meteorological Department forecasts thunderstorms, gusty winds and isolated heavy rainfall across several regions between November 2 and November 6.

Bangkok and central Thailand could see thunderstorm coverage increase to 40–60% during November 4–6, potentially complicating drainage in areas already experiencing elevated river levels.

🚨 Flood Safety Advice

Residents in vulnerable areas should monitor official warnings, move valuable belongings above expected flood levels, avoid driving through flooded roads and prepare for possible travel disruptions.

The current warning indicates a risk of flooding; it does not mean every location in the eight provinces will experience inundation.

🌏 Orbis Weather Outlook

The greatest immediate concern is tidal flooding along rivers and coastal communities through November 4. Additional rainfall later in the week could prolong flooding where drainage remains restricted.

Residents and visitors should follow updates from the Office of the National Water Resources and the Thai Meteorological Department.
