Portugal’s best was Beja at 82.4°F (28.0°C) on Monday. Kalamata, Greece, and Trapani, Sicily, both reached 78.8°F (26.0°C), on Friday and Sunday. Perpignan and Béziers led France at 77.0°F (25.0°C), and Malta’s Luqa airport peaked at 75.2°F (24.0°C).

What stands out

The heat peaked in Cyprus at the start of the week and in Spain later on. Larnaca’s daily highs eased steadily after Saturday, to 75.2°F (24.0°C) by Thursday. In Spain, the east coast peaked on Sunday, Granada and Córdoba on Monday, and the Seville and Cádiz area on Thursday. AEMET, Spain’s weather service, called the rise a “repunte puntual y no de una ola de calor” (a one-off rise, not a heat wave), as reported by moncloa.com.

No temperature records set or tied this week were found in national weather service or news reports. AEMET’s Andalusia delegate had forecast highs “cercanas al récord de esta época” (close to the record for this time of year), but no record was confirmed.

The week ahead

Forecast highs stay below this week’s peak, with southern Spain and Portugal warmest early on and most places cooler by Thursday.

How this list is made

The ranking uses daily maximum temperatures from airport weather reports (METARs), compiled by the Iowa Environmental Mesonet, for October 23 to 29, 2026 (UTC days). Each place appears once, at its hottest reading, with stations in the same city merged. Airport reports are mostly hourly and rounded to whole degrees Celsius, so true highs may be slightly higher. The data is preliminary. Top readings were checked against the hourly reports. Málaga’s daily value of 84.2°F (29.0°C) was not supported by any hourly report, which peaked at 82.4°F (28.0°C), so it is left out of the table. An Algeciras value of 82.4°F could not be checked and is also left out. Europe here includes Cyprus and excludes the Canary Islands, Madeira, the Azores and Asian Turkey. For comparison, Tenerife reached 84.2°F (29.0°C), Lajes in the Azores 75.2°F (24.0°C), and Adana in Asian Turkey 87.8°F (31.0°C) in hourly reports.
